Background
The 3-year project, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Development
and Cooperation (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ in close cooperation with Goethe-Institute, aims at improving the prospects for employment and income for micro, small and mediums enterprises (MSME) and entrepreneurs in the cultural and creative industries in the selected partner countries. It will do so by working in four different areas of action:improving offers to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacities and activities of MSME and entrepreneurs in the culture and creative industries,
Improving services by local intermediary organizations for MSME and entrepreneurs in the cultural and creative industries (access to information, advocacy, access to markets etc.) as well as establishment of regular round table formats for improving framework conditions in the sector,
Transnational exchange between relevant actors in the sector,
Consultancy to BMZ in terms of further developing the strategy and international visibility for promoting the cultural and creative industries.
The target group of the project are male and female cultural and creative entrepreneurs, mainly aged 15-35, self-employed individuals, business start-ups, owners of MSMEs and their employees. The project will be implemented collaboratively by a team based in Germany (Bonn), Africa (South Africa, Kenya, Senegal) and Middle East & North Africa (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq). Activities in Africa will be coordinated by the project’s Hub in South Africa.
Qualifications and skills:
University degree in Business, Economics or Social Sciences
Several years of working experience in the area of private sector development (business development services, dialogue formats)
Knowledge of the local economic structure and local framework conditions and public/private institutions in the area of MSME development and entrepreneurship development
Knowledge of and interest in the cultural and creative industry of the country, specifically the sub-sectors Music, Fashion and/or Film
Very strong networking, communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written), confident and cooperative behavior
strong team work skills, strong ability to work independently, initiative and solution-orientation
Project management skills in terms of project planning, implementation and monitoring
Other knowledge, additional competences
Proficient use of MS word, excel and power point
Very good written and verbal English skills, as well as Kiswahili. Knowledge of
German is an asset.
Ability and willingness to travel both nationally and internationally
Excellent command of English and Kiswahili language required
Excellent project management skills
Willingness to up skill competences as required by the tasks to be performed corresponding measures are agreed with management
An interdisciplinary mindset, the ability to cooperate and work in a team, a high degree of initiative and a willingness to take responsibility;
Responsibilities
develop the project‘s intervention strategy and annual action plans in collaboration with the project‘s Africa Hub in South Africa as well as the local office of Goethe-Institut and other local stakeholders
Guide and conduct quality control of local and international consultancies implementing the project activities; where necessary, recruit and steer local consultancies
Advise local partners in developing their services to MSMEs in the cultural and creative economy (subsectors Music, Fashion and/or Film)and in initiating round table formats for public-private dialogue on issues relevant to the cultural and creative economy
Engage in stakeholder dialogue, identify interests and needs of different stakeholders and foster collaborative solution-building
Contribute to the implementation of regional exchange formats together with the project’s Africa and MENA Hubs
Contribute to the project‘s monitoring system through data collection and communication; contribute to the project’s communication products (project factsheets, brochures, films etc.) and reporting formats
Closely coordinate all activities and regularly exchange with local GIZ office, Goethe-Institute, German embassy and local partners
