Applications are invited to fill the position of Area Sales Manager to be based in Eldoret - Upper Rift Region.

Overall Job Purpose:
Reporting to the National Sales Manager, the Area Sales Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the distribution strategy to grow Unga Limited business in the assigned territory, through a robust Route to Market across all channels; through SRDE Distributors driving present and growing volumes, value and market share; and through building superior relationships as a preferred business partner.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
1. University Graduate in Bachelor of Commerce/Business administration.

2. Post graduate (Diploma/degree) qualification in Business preferred.

3. Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in Distribution and Route to Market management

4. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suites

5. Ability to work with minimum supervision

Responsibilities

1. Plan, co-ordinate and carry out direct sales and marketing support activities from the Unga Ltd distributor level, Modern Trade- Key Retail Accounts, Tier -2 Retail Outlets –that will include Priority Supermarkets, Large Dukas , Large Groceries and Kiosks to achieve agreed upon sales volume budgets, volume and value share, product listings , numeric and weighted distribution targets . Monitor and report performance versus set commercial objectives on a weekly and monthly basis through the Unga Ltd -National Sales Manager (NSM).
2. Monitor and report on competitor activities, carry out market research and customer surveys and provide relevant information to the management to facilitate making of well informed decisions for a sustained profitable business growth. This will be guided by the marketing mix comprising of Price, Products, and Placement and Promotional activities within your designated territory.

3. Train and continuously develop the SRDE Distributors’ and their respective sales force through a pre-planned quarterly program to enhance their Unga product-brands knowledge, effective communication, customer care, distribution operating standards and methodology to enable the distributors’ achieve the set monthly Distributor Operating Standards Appraisal (DOSA) scores.

4. In liaison with the National Sales Manager (NSM) and the Unga Ltd Marketing team, develop strategic marketing, sales, distribution plans and concepts and be directly involved in their execution that will include roll out of the restructured Route to Market (RTM) retail execution program covering all Tier 1 and 2 Retail outlets that will include Key -Modern Trade Supermarkets, Priority Supermarkets, Large Groceries, Large Volume Dukas, Large Kiosks. Ensure all Distributors operate within the set Distributor Operating Standards through carrying out monthly Distributor Operating Standards Appraisals [DOSA].

5. Breakdown of Daily, Weekly and Monthly SRDE Distributor and Trade Marketing Representative (TMR) agreed sales targets by the 3rd day of every new month and ensure formal communication and sign off by the TMR, Key SRDE distributors and Outsourced Merchandisers. Achieve weekly/ monthly targets tied to the Scheduled Delivery *SD+ program by Unga SRDE Distributors’.

6. Manage and motivate the Trade Marketing Representatives (TMR), Unga SRDE Distributors, their Route Salesmen and the Unga Outsourced Merchandisers’ through Route Accompaniment, continuous training and coaching in accordance with set company policies and ensure relevant Unga Ltd HR procedures-practices are followed to include:-Hoshin Kanri (HK) goal setting, appraisals, discipline, grievances etc, for the Unga Ltd Sales staff reporting to you directly.

7. Ensure effective and efficient management of company assets including company sales vehicles assigned to the Field sales team, any Unga assets placed within your designated sales territory to support the Unga business growth initiatives.
