EducationA first-level university degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, mass communication, sociology, urban planning and architecture or other related area.
Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, partner relations, research, administration or related area. Knowledge of procedures related to technical cooperation, programme/project identification/formulation/appraisal/implementation and evaluation and programme management is desirable. Knowledge of UN-Habitat processes and policies on stakeholder engagement is an added advantage.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English language is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Responsibilities
ResponsibilitiesUnder the guidance of the Director of External Relations, Knowledge and Innovation Division, and the supervision of the Head, Partnerships and Local Government Section the Associate Programme Officer will support Partner Mobilization and be responsible for the following duties:
•Supports stakeholder engagement in UN-Habitat intergovernmental processes including participation in the Executive Board; and contributes to preparation of various background papers, publications, presentations, and inputs for reports to and on meetings of intergovernmental bodies.
•Develops and maintains reference/resource information on stakeholder engagement matters to keep abreast on issues/events and to provide up-to-date information; and assists in the analysis of information and maintains awareness of current partnership issues and their potential impact on programmes.
•Coordinates the development of the stakeholder engagements handbooks, guides and tools in consultation with other stakeholders and relevant UN agencies taking into account the stakeholder engagement policy, partnership strategy and collaborative framework.
•Provides administrative and substantive support to expert group meetings, panel discussions, conferences, participates in ERSKI Division, Section and Unit meetings and consultations; prepares summaries of results, and contributes to the monthly external relations newsletter highlighting partner engagement including coordination with Kenya-based organizations
•Provides administrative and substantive support to the coordination of COVID-19 response plan, especially support of the Kenya focused COVID-19 response. This may include, but not limited to facilitating peer to peer learning on partnerships for combatting COVID 19.
•Supports empowerment of stakeholders in Kenya on monitoring SDGs and the New Urban Agenda.
•Supports internal capacity building on stakeholder engagement, especially in Kenya, carries out research on selected aspects of critical areas of concern including collecting, analysing, and presenting statistical data and information gathered from diverse sources.
•Performs other duties as required.
