Assistant Research Scientist/Tree Breeding

Position: Assistant Research Scientist (Tree Breeding)
Location: Kilifi

Job Summary
i) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum aggregate „C+? ( plus)
or its equivalent qualification;
ii) At least an Upper Second Honors in Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry Sciences/
Forest Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Botany or equivalent
from a recognized institution; and
iii) Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.

Responsibilities

Assisting in problem identification, formulation, development, implementation and monitoring of multi- disciplinary research projects/programmes/activities in Tree Breeding,

Assisting in identification, selection and development programmes for genetic improvement of various tree species;

Assisting in designing experiments, collecting, analyzing and managing data in Tree Breeding;

Assisting in data collection, analysis and management in Tree Breeding;

Participating in development and review of national tree improvement strategies;

Assist in writing appropriate technical reports and scientific papers including Research Notes, Technical Notes, conference papers, peer reviewed papers and dissemination materials in Tree Breeding;

Assisting in provision of advisory and training services;

Assisting in disseminating research findings;

Supervising and mentoring junior staff and students on attachment in Tree Breeding;

Participating in compiling of departmental quarterly and annual reports;

Job Requirements

Required education
: Bachelor's degree

Required relevant work experience
: 3 years
