Baristas are responsible for a number of tasks detailed below.
The starting salary for Baristas is
Ksh. 18,000
plus tips and bonuses.
Responsibilities:
Attending pre-shift and general meetings to update knowledge of special offers and stock-related issues, and to discuss service and product matters.
Engage customers before taking orders (i.e. “How are you today?”)
Educate customers on menu items and answer any questions they ask
Up-sell additional products when appropriate
Take accurate food and drinks orders, using a POS ordering software, order slips
Serve prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
Serve drink orders, like coffee, shakes, smoothies etc
Take orders while paying attention to details (i.e. preferences of roast, dairy and syrup)
Ensure security and confidentiality of information
Ensure no cash is disbursed without authorization.
Submit all daily collection to the manager.
Conduct proper handover before leaving shift.
Count cash in the cash register at the end of each shift and ensure that it tallies
Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales
Operate the cash register - receiving and processing payments, printing bills and receipts
Take calls and process orders
Following up on food and beverage orders with back of house (BOH).
Issuing guests with their check on request, and thanking them sincerely on departure.
Performing closing duties such as sweeping and vacuuming, and preparing linens for collection by laundry service.
Keep the barista area and equipment clean
Maintain a clean and organised working area, sanitizing the counter and chairs, and sweeping crumbs off of the floor
Maintain stock of syrups, bar fridge, pastries, bagged coffee and merchandise
Working in as part of a fun, high-energy team.
Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates
Complete tasks on the checklist (for the appropriate shift) by completed tasks, working ahead to ensure completion before the shift is over. Stay until it is completed.
Complete daily tasks as possible (first shift), and complete before end of day (second shift)
If there is time and it is appropriate, complete items on the next shift's checklist
If the above is complete, ask your manager for something to do
Order, receive, or stock supplies or retail products when needed
Notice if equipments operate properly and report any maintenance needs
Adhere to all food safety regulations and quality controls
Weigh, grind, or pack coffee beans for customers
Wrap, label, or date food items for sale
Provide customers with product details, such as coffee blend or preparation descriptions
Recommend new menu items and communicate customer feedback to managers
Perform any duty as assigned from time to time.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
3 years experience as a barista
Basic mathematical skills
Experience in food and beverage preparation or customer service preferred.
Experience as a barista and cashier preferred.
Training and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation.
Exceptional listening and communication skills.
Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
Availability to work around peak hours, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
A polite, engaging personality.

Ability to problem solve quickly
Ability to follow directions
Willingness to work as part of a high-energy, efficient team in a fast-paced environment.
