REF: TNH/HRD/CH-A & E/06/21 Reporting to the Assistant Director Nursing Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating all the operations of the department, ensuring total and effective nursing care of trauma and other patients requiring emergency care. Providing direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles, continuing responsibility for the management of the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department, personnel, fiscal and material resources.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational

Championing continual quality improvement and patient safety through utilization of set policies, standards and procedures.
Reviewing and develop strategies for early and effective response to the acutely ill patients presenting to A&E and in the wards.
Coordinating medical training including Continuous Medical Education programs for the nursing team at A & E.
Supervising the day to day operations of the department.
Assisting in managing and maintaining the major disaster plan.
Participating in developing various clinical protocols.
Maintain and observe infection control measures for patients, customers and staff well-being.
Upholding statutory regulations as required by nursing profession and the laws of Kenya.
Participating in departmental and hospital activities i. e research, audits, CSR, open days.
Attending Administrative meetings, Charge Nurse's meetings, Procedure committees and other committees as may be required from time to time.
Preparing department's Budget.

Tactical

Providing high standard of nursing care to the patients in the A& E department.
Responding to Emergency alerts.
Utilize advanced technology trauma patient monitoring.
Advocate for patients, treating them with dignity, according them privacy and respect.
Communicate effectively with patients, patients' families and all other care givers.
Communicating effectively with doctors and other hospital departments for collaborative and supportive relationships.
Prepares the monthly Rotation for staff, vacation and their daily assignment of duties.
Utilize the available resources effectively for quality service delivery, profitability and cost containment.
Provide accurate documentation and proper record keeping of patients' treatment.
Maintain, monthly and quarterly statistics.
Provide input to determine manpower for the department.
Monitor the performance of the nurses & attendants in the department.
Ensure regular maintenance is performed on all equipment and communicate with the Biomedical/Maintenance Engineering department.
Take full responsibility for all equipment in the A&E inventory, order supplies for the Department.
Protect all confidential information concerning the hospital, patients and to make disclosure only with patient and Chief Executive Officer's permission.
Investigate patients' complaints and incidents promptly in accordance with the Hospital procedures, and reporting within the same shift.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

KRN, KRCHN, BSc. Nursing
Higher diploma Emergency Nursing
Minimum of 7 years post clinical nursing.
Management / Supervisory skills training
Good managerial skills.
Mentorship training.
ACLS, ATLS or EPALS/PALS training.
Good interpersonal skills & communication skills
Good customer care skills.
