About the company...
Our client is bringing trust and transparency back to transport. They aim to connect every cargo owner with interested transporters in a transparent, efficient and secure manner then let them set their own terms.

They are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to drive and deliver the technological vision of company's. tech. The focus of responsibilities will be to lead the growth and development of the engineering team with the aim to make the company the leading trucking logistics platform in Kenya and across the continent. You will report directly to the CEO

They are currently going through a very high-growth period and are looking for someone who will be able to hit the ground running, have a very proactive work ethic, and be interested in developing African start-ups.
Technical leadership

Responsible for development lifecycle cycle end to end (Architecture, Design, Development, QA, deployment to production)
Responsible for IT and R&D Quality
Responsible for production environment Security, SLA, and stability
MVP development: constantly improve the web-based platform and native apps, while ensuring the high quality of work delivery from the engineering team.
Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements or adjustments to technology
Hiring: continue building the tech team (source, screen and interview candidates to check their technical knowledge)
Mentoring: help junior developers, share knowledge and experience with the team
Identifying tech stack: pick the best technologies for mobile or web development
Operational management

Develop and drive technology vision for the company in alignment with its business goals
Team management: track tech team performance, mentor software developers
Company strategy establishment: improve efficiency within tech-related work, optimize the company’s processes
Company’s representative: attend conferences, identify tech partnerships, find developers
Trends analysis: monitor tech trends within the company field, decide to integrate trends
Qualifications & Experience

At least 5 years experience in a similar role
Background in software development. This preferably includes some experience as a tech lead and/or software architect, ideally in a startup in Africa.
Strategic thinking. Ability to see the big picture to achieve a product-market fit.
Strong project management skills
Strong people skills.
Ability to communicate easily down and upward within the team, as well as with external stakeholders (partners, investors, clients…)
Ability to mentor others.
Ability to properly convey a product vision to other developers
Willingness to learn constantly.
Time management skills.
Ability to set tasks and meet delivery deadlines at own and team levels
Hard skills required

Experience storing data in MongoDB
Hosting code bases on
Experience using Bamboo application for Continuous Integration
Experience developing android applications using Java
Experienced with Java Spring Boot framework
Experienced with Angular web framework
Knowledgeable with Nginx and Tomcat servers
Experienced with AWS EC2 and Ubuntu OS
Competitive salary and potential stock options depending on the profile. The position can be 100% remote for the time being (and later in Nairobi, Kenya). However, being based in Nairobi, Kenya is an advantage.
