Based in Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria, they are a venture-funded Series B company that is already having a huge impact on millions of people in Africa. They have a passionate and highly engaged team based in East and West Africa and are looking to quickly grow it to speed-up the organization’s growth and make sure they can revolutionize transportation, on-demand services and payments in Africa’s cities.
About the role
The CTO is the head of the company's Engineering function. You will lead the direction of technology and ensure the continued growth of the engineering teams with an emphasis on fostering a strong engineering culture. They are currently building teams in cities of operation as well as engineers who work remotely.
Responsibilites:
Lead technology and innovation and be a key decision-maker for the company.
Accountable for all technical decisions and software development across the company's product suite including Customer and Driver Apps and internal tools
Lead, mentor, and inspire a distributed engineering team to perform at a high level and deliver world-class products
Recruit, develop, manage and scale a talented technology team committed to developing innovative solutions aligned with the company’s business model, values, and vision
Utilize performance review cycles to reiterate expectations and discuss methods to achieve and exceed them
Act as a strong advocate for quality in the product development process for software engineering
Manage the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities of Engineering
You are a key member of the senior leadership and you report directly to the CEOs of the company and partner with the product lead to align long term technical strategy with product strategy
Experience
+6 years experience leading engineering teams building product
Degree in Computer Science or any related field
Experience managing successful engineering teams (remote-based a plus) including hiring/terminations and performance management
Strong experience building scaling or scaled consumer-facing technology is a huge plus
Knowledge of current trends in software design, architecture, and web services
Works comfortably in a collaborative setting, and is comfortable working with executive leadership
Willing to travel frequently to our engineering hubs
English language fluency
