In emergencies, WFP gets food to where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. After an emergency, WFP uses food to help communities rebuild their lives. On average, WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries each year. The organization has the global footprint, deep field presence and local knowledge and relationships necessary to provide access to nutritious food and contribute to the lasting solutions, especially in many of the world’s most remote and fragile areas.
The Regional Bureau in Nairobi (RBN) provides strategic guidance, policy/technical support and direction to WFP operations and activities in nine countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda.
JOB PURPOSE
Emergency preparedness and response

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in the university and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies; currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master's degree) from a recognized university; or have graduated from a university undergraduate or graduate programme within the last 6 months preferably inSocial Sciences, Disaster Management, Agriculture, Range Management, Development Studies, Environmental Science, or other related field.
Fluent in English (both oral and written) is a must; knowledge of a second UN language, preferably French, would be an asset
Full proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
What you will do:
Act as the Focal Point for the Emergency Preparedness and Response Package (EPRP) for the Bureau. Key tasks include following up with Country Offices to update the Checklists (MPAs, ERAs) Contingency Plans, and the Risk Register.
Work with the EPR team at the regional Bureau to support the capacity strengthening of Country Offices to effectively implement Emergency Preparedness and Response activities, as well as the EPRP tool, by regularly disseminating relevant information.
In collaboration with all Regional Bureau units and Country Offices, assist the EPR team with the establishment of an operational plan to respond to crisis in the region, through the reviewing of Concept of Operations and IR-PREPs etc.
Produce and contribute to the preparation of briefs, presentations and reports on the regional Emergency Preparedness and Response activities.
Conduct desk research, reviews and analyses of key documents relating to Emergency Preparedness activities and the Emergency Response to the crises in the East Africa region.
Support in the synthesis and production of regional contextual risks in the East and Central Africa region. Also support in the identification of risks and mitigating measures internal to our operations, including those related to protection, accountability, and data protection and privacy.

Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment (i.e. Nairobi)

WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
