PATH is seeking to recruit three (3) temporary Field Assistants to monitor fidelity, exposure, and spillover of mother/ child dyads participating in a three-arm ECD research study in Bondo sub-county, Siaya County. The Field Assistants will also support routine implementation and quality assurance/ improvement efforts in non-study sites in Siaya County as may be assigned.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
At least two years of demonstrable professional experience in community-level health promotion, health facility–level service delivery, and/or collection and analysis of data from health service providers and caregivers.
Prior experience in collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data is essential.
Sound understanding of the structure of the health system in Kenya and the way in which health services are implemented at health facility and community levels.
Solid understanding of key concepts in maternal and child health and nutrition.
Understanding and/or willingness to learn more of how ECD contributes to better health and development.
Good organizational skills, ability to manage several major activities simultaneously, and work in a complex environment with short deadlines.
Ability to work with various technologies (computers, mobile phones, etc.) and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
Strong knowledge of the local culture, especially around caregiving.
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills in English. Fluency in Dholuo is essential.
Ability to work in field conditions and be based in/around Siaya County.
Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities:
Monitor quality of ECD interventions at all three touch-points through direct observation.
Review permanent registers in health facilities to record the number of times each mother/child dyad received child development counseling and monitoring as part of routine facility-level health services.
Conduct exit interviews with mothers at health facility and community levels to obtain information on quality and content of the health facility– and home-based ECD interventions.
Support efforts to collect qualitative data from a range of service providers to understand aspects of ECD service delivery in more granular detail—e.g., barriers and motivations, quality of supervision, daily service delivery routines, typical ECD messages shared to clients, etc.
Notify PATH team members of concerns regarding fidelity and quality of individual service providers and touch-points, with a view to providing corrective actions such as on-the-job trainings and meetings with health facility in-charges.
Enter data from all data collection activities and conduct basic data quality assurance.
Support routine implementation and quality assurance/improvement activities in non-study sites on a case by case basis—e.g., on-the-job training and mentoring of service providers and monitoring fidelity of and exposure to ECD content.
Support collection and documentation of success stories and lessons learned.
