To meet our ambitious and exciting growth goals we have created this new full-time fundraising role focused on building relationships with new international institutional partners, writing grant applications and proposals, and strengthening Hatua’s relationships with existing partners.
Local and international donors have been instrumental to help Hatua Networks grow over the years. Because of our proven track record we now have the opportunity to seek support from a wealth of international funders who are interested in addressing the challenges youth face in Africa.
You will position Hatua’s programs to donors in ways that resonates with their mission and motivates their engagement and share Hatua’s successes and lessons learnt to strengthen our partnership, elicit continued support and encourage our stakeholders to connect us with new prospective donors.
As our Grants Officer you will join our small, dynamic, and growing fundraising team! This is an ideal role for someone passionate about youth development who has great writing and persuasion skills to bring
Hatua’s stories to life on paper in a way that excites potential partners to be part of our work.
Who we are looking for
? You are highly passionate about advancing the social sector and have a strong interest in education and youth empowerment.
? You have persuasive communication skills, with an ability to tell stories in a way that influences action.
? Very strong writing skills, with the ability to produce drafts that don’t need editing on style or grammar.
? The idea of mobilizing resources towards a great cause excites you, and working long hours on your laptop doesn’t drain your energy. You enjoy writing and can write efficiently.
? You have sharpened your analytical and conceptual skills over time.
? You are able to organize your own work, and meet deadlines.
? Previous professional writing experience is required.
? You have a diploma or bachelor’s degree in a social science, journalism, English language, creative writing or a related field.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Identify, research and vet funding opportunities
? Fully understand the design and impact of all Hatua programs in order to represent the organization to funders.
? With guidance of the Development Coordinator, research and vet potential funding opportunities and understand their requirements.
Preparing grant applications and funding proposals
? For each funding opportunity, collaborate with relevant team members and agree on the aspect of Hatua’s work to propose for funding along with the relevant impact measures to be achieved.
? Understand each donor’s funding approach, theory of change and preferred language, in order to tailor your writing to resonate with the specific donor.
? Help iterate and improve Hatua’s program design throughout the writing process, based on a deep understanding of student and market needs.
? Organise, prioritize and submit grants, ensuring we meet deadlines. Use the right formats, present flawless budgets etc.
? Write high-quality grant proposals, sharing drafts with the Executive Director for input and feedback, until a final version is ready for submission.
? Answer any follow-up questions and furnish prospective funders with supporting documents. Communication and reporting to existing funders and partners
? Select stories, photos, and layout for all external reports.
? Collect impact data from all team members; think through how to communicate successes as well as any discrepancies from planned goals in a way that builds trust with donors
? Create a first draft of all reports, ensuring they are professional-looking, highly informative and easy to consume. Then finalize reports with Hatua’s directors.
? Manage a schedule listing all reporting timelines and communicate with team well in advance to ensure we deliver on time.
? Cultivate relationships with donors by engaging in regular communication, respond to all arising questions and finding ways to help donors feel emotionally connected to Hatua’s work.
? Draft Hatua’s Annual Report.Supporting in other activities
? Update Hatua’s Donor Management System with progress on each donor relationship
? Support Hatua’s communication’s officer by editing blog posts and assisting with other communication work.
