Our client, who is on their way to being the continent's largest grocer using a cutting edge mobile-based, cashless B2B supply platform is looking to add a talented Head of Engineering to their team of experts. With a mission to access distribution into the millions of small and medium-sized vendors in African urban markets, the company is making a very real difference in Africa. Their technology allows them to drastically exploit latent value in broken, informal, value-chains and wholesale providers. Since 2014, the company has been bridging gaps in the food and market security space through an organised platform tailored for an efficient, fair, transparent and formal marketplace at the cutting edge of the FinTech and e-commerce boom.With ambitious plans to expand the platform to 5 other African countries, Our client is revolutionising African retail by linking farmers and vendors to fair, trusted modern markets. They pride themselves in providing quality produce in an instant, transparent, convenient, fair, fast-paced and efficient manner.
Their Head of Engineering would be experienced and ‘hands-on’, with a passion for making a difference across Africa,someone who truly shares the company’s vision and values.The ideal person for this role would be someone who has experience leading their team from the front, rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in with the commercial acumen to deal with C-level individuals and an in-depth understanding of business strategy. As their products are consumer-focused, their Head of Engineering would have had experience building something for the end-user whilst driving a team of over 30 team leads and engineers.
RequirementsMandatory Requirements / Qualifications;
Hands-on demonstrable experience in a technical role
Experience in a technical leadership role
Fluency in one of their core languages (Java, JavaScript or Python)
An understanding of micro services architecture and how it works in a real-world cloud environment
Experience in defining technical strategy
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
Provide technical direction to the engineering team
Develop, uphold and report on metrics for the engineering teams
Work with the team leads to ensure every engineer is working on high priority tasks
Provide oversight of the technical leads
Work closely with the other departmental leaders and team members to develop and deliver on a product road-map which brings value to the business
Consistently communicate on status and risks of all technical projects to the CTO and Heads of Departments
Evaluate business needs against available engineering talent to schedule work and advise on hiring needs as needed
Provide functional assessment on engineering talent
Able to identify, recruit and help in the development of technical talent and leadership skills
Serve as a technical consultant to the business in engagements with product and platform vendors and suppliers
Guide the engineering team towards the embodiment of company and departmental values
Work closely with the CTO to ensure the most effective and efficient use of technical resources
