About the company:
The company's purpose is to aggregate retail demand in African cities to provide low-cost access to better quality food. They are establishing a distribution network that reaches as many small retailers as possible through efficiently organized supply of both fresh fruits and vegetables (FFVs) and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), providing them with a one-stop shop for all their business needs. They work with farmers to establish an efficient and consistent production that brings down the cost of fresh produce while providing processed foods manufacturers with a low-cost platform to distribute their products. As a Company, they strive to establish a food safety framework in Kenya and ensure that they lead by example in creating a food supply ecosystem that consumers can trust to provide them with safe and wholesome food.
The role reports to the CTO. Technical Managers report to the Head of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical direction to the engineering team
Develop, uphold and report on metrics for the engineering teams
Work with the team leads to ensure every engineer is working on high priority tasks
Provide oversight of the technical leads
Work closely with the other departmental leaders and team members to develop and deliver on a product roadmap which brings value to the company as a business
Consistently communicate on status and risks of all technical projects to the CTO
Evaluate business needs against available engineering talent to schedule work and advise on hiring needs as needed
Provide functional assessment on engineering talent
Able to identify, recruit and help in the development of technical talent and leadership skills
Serve as a technical consultant to the business in engagements with product and platform vendors and suppliers
Guide the engineering team towards the embodiment of company and departmental values
Work closely with the CTO to ensure the most effective and efficient use of technical resources
Skills And Qualifications:
Demonstrable experience in a technical role preferably in a hands-on development role
Experience in a technical leadership role
Fluency in one of our core languages (Java, Javascript or Python)
An understanding of microservices architecture and how it works in a real-
world cloud environment
Experience in defining technical strategy
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
