Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Transport heavy loads
Transport heavy materials and equipment with over 50 tons to designated locations in a timely manner
Ensure compliance with relevant authorities including Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) wide load exemption permits and other necessary documentations
Ensure materials and/or equipment are secure while on transit.
2. Conduct vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
Undertake both pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and ensure that the vehicle is in good condition at all times
Ensure regular maintenance are done as per the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements
Maintain records of vehicle inspections and maintenance.
Perform emergency road side repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs and spark plugs
Maintain the truck clean at all times.
3. Coordinate activities with transport, logistic and project personnel
Closely work with the logistics, Transport officers and the project personnel on schedules, routes and materials to be picked and/or delivered
Frequently update the transport supervisor & logistic personnel of any delays, and change of routes.
Proactively plan on fueling points especially for long distance assignments.
4. Adherence to Safety Standards
Strictly observe the company’s Absolute Safety Rules especially those pertaining to driving.
Follow delivery schedules and rest at appropriate times.
Follow appropriate safety procedures for loading and unloading heavy loads
Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations or damages to the vehicle.
Minimum Requirements
Valid driving license with Special (ART) stamp
Minimum of 5 years driving experience in operating heavy commercial vehicles/trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)of more than 50 tons
Minimum Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), its equivalent
Defensive Driving from the Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or its equivalent qualification
Valid certificate of good conduct
Certificate of service/Recommendation from previous employers
Basic Mechanical skills
30-40 years of age
Well conversant with the current traffic rules and regulations
Good communication & interpersonal skills
