Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Masters, Ph.D or equivalent.
Applicants must be pursuing qualifications in an area of study that can significantly contribute to the responsibilities outlined and overall work of the Global Programme for Action Unit, including:
• Be computer literate in standard software applications;
• Possess good report writing skills;
• Demonstrate organizational and pleasant interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrate some experience in nutrient management related work;
• Demonstrate interest in issues related to ecosystems management, restoration, biodiversity conservation, climate change, or sustainable development and knowledge;
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
• Have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Upon completion of the assignment it is anticipated that the Intern will:
• Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
• Have improved communication skills through interaction with UNEP staff, Executive and Senior Management, governments and partner organizations;
• Have gained a better understanding of UNEP's operations and the overall United Nations system.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the official working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individuals' background as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer GPA/Nutrients Management, it is expected that his/her responsibilities will fall within one or several of the following broad activities to support the implementation of activities related to Nutrient Management:
• Support the preparations for the inception meeting of the Working Group on Sustainable Nitrogen Management and the GPNM Steering Committee Meetings, this will include tracking documentation and logistical support;
• Assist with the further development of the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management webpage by ensuring content is updated regularly;
• Develop key communications materials, in print, online and for social media, including the global campaign on sustainable nitrogen management, for the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management;
• Conduct research on potential new members to support the expansion of the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management;
• Keep track of, and regularly update, the partners’ contact database and the corresponding mailing lists of the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management;
• Assist in the preparation of workshops, meetings and other events to achieve programmatic results;
• Support in organizing and regularly updating the relevant folders for administrative purposes;
• Undertake targeted desktop research to compile stories, facts, data and other pieces on nitrogen, phosphorus, sargassum and other nutrient related topics to inform program development;
• Support the preparations for the fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5) with a focus on nutrient management related activities;
• Support other tasks or activities as required and in accordance with the Intern's interests.
