It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.The UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Africa (ROAf) internship is for 6 monthsIn the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.Under the Supervision of the Director & Human Settlements Officers, and Regional Office for Africa (ROAf), the intern will:- Familiarize with the UN-Habitat mandate, UN-Habitat policies and strategic plan.- Prepare Project Concept Notes and strategic papers for the Office of the Regional Director - Supporting and contributing to reporting and Monitoring &Evaluation (M&E) on programme results, outputs and outcomes, including notetaking of key meetings;- Supporting data collection and analysis; archiving; drafting, editing and fact-checking reports; development of infographics; drafting, typesetting and publication of high-quality reports;- Supporting the production of materials to highlight the achievements of UN-Habitat across all of its projects and programmes, such as success stories about results achieved under UN-Habitat projects and programmes based on relevant inputs from project/programme managers, partners and donors;- Translating information/data into high quality visual infographics and other visual contents;- Performing other administrative and coordination support tasks as may be assigned by the team. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client. Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalentBe computer literate in standard software applications.Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Preferred area of Studies:Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months in Development Studies o, Journalism, Communication, Web Editing or related field.- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);- Knowledge in Adobe Suite and Canva- Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of another language (e.g. French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish) is desirable.- Proven experience of graphic production from concept and design to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management;- Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms;- Advanced knowledge of standard software packages, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud etc.- Ability to edit documents and/or summarize/analyze content for various audience Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in English is required and Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
