The Business Scouts for Development Program works in around 40 countries across the globe. Together with partner institutions from the private sector we engage development cooperation for SMEs in the manufacturing sector. Networking for local and German/European companies and launching specific cooperation projects with business organizations the Programme impacts companies’ access to new markets and drive forward sustainable economic development. To cooperate successfully with private-sector actors, development cooperation must be able to respond appropriately to the sector’s specific needs. The involvement of central associations and industry associations (including the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) and the Federation of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade (BGA) as partners in development cooperation ensures that there is close dialogue with the formal private sector and that its needs are taken into account. In Kenya linkages with KAM, EABC and other organizations shall provide access to SMEs and understand better how GIZ Advisors can fuel the advocacy agenda for doing business and provide capacity building for industrialization and elevated level of manufacturing in Eastern Africa

Responsibilities

Junior Advisor works together with other Advisors in KE, TZ, UG, GERand
engages, supports technical cooperation as follows: •SME-interventions carried out in the network of the program and where applicable with other GIZ entities and external partners.
•Compiling ToR for deploying service providers and/or directly putting business organizations into a position that they are enabled to be driving force during the implementation
•Networking efforts, strategies for achieving cluster targets and supplementing to a sustainable
manufacturing sector, creating formal jobs and elevate skills of staff in management positions•Shaping partnership projects to ensure successful achievement of manufacturing SMEs
scale up and local and German, European private sector partners are encouraged to engage in the implementation work or consider further B2B actions independently in Kenya•Interacting with program chapters in Eastern Africa for empowering joint initiatives under
the framework of cluster and Business Membership Organizations in the region•Logistical support to allow beneficiary companies, Business Membership Organizations,
private sector actors abroad interactions with the BDI-Advisor (Berlin)
Key tasks and duties•Support implementation of SME-capacity development activities in consultation with the Team and the management of partnership approaches for manufacturing/
industrialization (beneficiary SMEs, Business Membership Organizations),• Follow ups on consultancies (reviewing ToRs, contracting of consultants together with admin. colleagues, quality checks of consultant proposals),
•Support networking, cooperation, and communication with relevant stakeholders for Business Scouts for Development program, as well as the organization of internal and partner meetings,
•Oversights for fund management together with admin. staff, checking compliance and accountability and reviewing reporting from partners,
• Attending meetings as rapporteur, internally and in meeting with other actors for private sector development, with focus on Kenya, helping advisors in operational
planning of GIZ and preparing presentations for them,•Advising SMEs on research, information material, relevant for GIZ e.g. develoPPP.de, other SME support available from German Cooperation,
•Research for advisors for helping to develop new tools and ideas (e.g., in the areas of ICT/digitalization, green jobs, etc.) to improve the implementation and
achievement of results of the programme, •Engage in monitoring and evaluations tasks together with colleagues,
•Observing implementation for advisors and beneficiaries for communication targets and make suggestions for success stories being captured from SMEs in the program together with communication experts in the program,
•Support the programme management on any other duty where applicable.
A. Required qualifications, competencies, and experience
Qualifications:
· Education:
Bachelor’s degree in disciplines relevant to the project, e.g. Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration or equivalent in science for production, energy.
·Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English, Swahili
·Advanced computer skills, applying online tools for conferencing, Knowledge management System, CRM data
Professional experience
·At least 2 years of professional experience in the private sector development area. MSME skills development is an asset;
·Experience in promoting business networks and creating relationship between different stakeholders. Working for international organizations and/or fair company is advantage
·Strong interest for manufacturing, deep understanding for needs of industrial experts and their capacity building interests; experience working on technical know-how transfer or cluster work in specific manufacturing sectors
·Experience with Business Membership Organisations, entrepreneurship promotion institution and running partnerships between DP and the private sector are an asset.
Additional competencies
• Interest and knowledge of tools in topics SME Development, green jobs and/or
ICT/digitalization. • Intercultural competence working with local and international teams;
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Willingness to acquire new knowledge and being flexible
