Job Summary
Ilara Health is looking for aLaboratory Manager and Advisorto run their laboratories safely and efficiently. They will be in charge of all aspects of the labs where they work, including equipment, employees, supplies, software, and documentation. You will also be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective departmental operations including quality control and compliance adherence
Responsibilities
• Ensure the lab specimens are correctly received, labelled, registered, and stored;• Assist others with and perform laboratory diagnostic tests (class D/E/F labs);
• Establish routine workflow through SOPs to achieve the highest efficiency and decrease the turnaround time;
• Implement and ensure the maintenance of QC/QA programs to meet the highest standards in laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance;
• Provide technical information to physicians, patients and other health care workers regarding diagnostic tools and laboratory tests;
• Manage lab resources and procurement;
• Manage lab reporting, laboratory personnel, and performance monitoring;
• Ensure adherence to budgets and timelines;
• Establish and improve the lab operational system by timely addressing issues and possible risks;
• Design and expand a sustainable referral system to increase the lab growth;
• Work closely with the team members to provide effective solutions to support business and quality objectives;
• Promote effective intra- and interdepartmental communication by trending and reporting data;
• Advice and assist the team with innovative projects in the field of diagnostics and healthcare;
• Ensure all the lab regulatory requirements are met;
• Support employees to achieve the highest levels of productivity and efficiency by coaching them and promoting a culture of continuous learning.
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medicine and Surgery, Clinical Medicine, or any other equivalent qualification from an internationally recognized institution;
• > 7 years of working experience in a diagnostic medical laboratory (minimum class D lab);
• > 5 years of experience in advising medical laboratories on laboratory policies and guidelines, quality control and quality assurance;
• Experience in designing and implementing healthcare programs, including in the delivery of diagnostics in Sub-Saharan Africa;
• Demonstrated experience in establishing new healthcare facilities and building fruitful relationships with referring locations to increase lab test volumes, revenue and margins;
• Public health expertise, preferably on diagnostics and systems strengthening;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Great organizational skills and be able to work with limited supervision;
• Be computer literate;
• Fluent in spoken and written English;
• Preferably registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
