**Title: Lead Technician

Position Details
Job Purpose:**
The Lead Technician heads the Production and Quality Department of Jibuco in Kenya. As Department Leader the Lead Technician has the disciplinary and functional responsibility for the Production & Quality Technician and Trainer.
The ultimate responsibilities of the department are;
? To ensure that all Franchises produce safe drinking water at all times.
? To ensure compliance of Jibuco and their Franchises with the regulator (KEBS).
? To service and maintain the Water Treatment Systems and reduce production
downtime to a minimum.
**Duties & Responsibilities:
System Operator Capacity**
? Coordinate training of new and retraining of existing System Operators and Assistants.
? Oversee the developing, updating and maintaining of training material and curriculum for System Operators.
? Ensure that only certified System Operators are involved in the production of Jibu drinking water.
Compliance with Regulator (KEBS)
? Coordinate the application for Q-Marks in collaboration with the Managing Director.
? Track the progress on non-conformity closures and supervise the Franchisees to achieve the timely closure.
? Coordinate payments and issuing/receiving of documentation to/from the regulator.
? Prepare for and coordinate audits at franchises.
? Coordinate proper documentation and operations (e.g. sample taking) at all franchises to stay compliant after successful Q-Mark certification.
Water Production Capacity
? He timely and regular execution of preventive maintenance activities.
? Ensure necessary capacity to troubleshoot and maintain Water Treatment Systems in case of unexpected technical problems (downtime, taste/quality problems of product, etc.).
? Ensure water production as per latest standards and determine the correct design for each water treatment system in collaboration with the Head of Production & Quality.
? Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools and consumables used by the Production and Quality Department. Track the consumption of all items, monitor the stock levels, report the inventory on a quarterly basis and submit purchase orders well in advance to avoid stock outs.
? Ensure integrity of equipment, spare parts and Water Treatment Systems through proper handling and correct storage.
Expansion, Franchise Openings and Relocations
? Assess potential franchise premises against their feasibility to be used as water production facilities under consideration of the requirements of the regulator.
? Support Franchise Support Department in designing the franchise setup (allowing smooth and safe work-flow and flow of goods).
? Supervise the installation of Water Treatment Systems at Franchises, provide required BOM (Bill of Materials) to procurement and coordinate the installation.
? Inspect the premise before commissioning of the production facility and confirm that safe production as per WSP and UNBS standards is assured.
Department Management and Staff Supervision
? Carry out weekly check-ins with department members with the aim to develop a weekly work plan and follow up on progress and achievements to date.
? Determine the actual KPI achievements for the whole department and discuss with the department members on a monthly basis.
? Prepare a monthly Departmental Report and submit it to Country Director and Head of Production & Quality
? Conduct a monthly meeting with the whole department to reflect on last month’s performance, discuss the report and plan for the upcoming month.
? Perform regular (quarterly/biannually) review meetings with all department members to do the professional performance and personal skills review.
? Set targets for personal and professional improvement for all department members and do regular follow up on the progress.
Operations Excellence and Continuous improvement
? Ensure all business processes (at Jibuco and Franchisees) critical for the departmental performance are documented as Standard Operating Procedures and understood by and accessible for all team members.
? Ensure a productive work environment and make sure that all work areas, work-tools and departmental data are clean and in order.
? Identify best practices wherever possible and implement them for all department members.
? Monitor the operational expenses on a regular basis and introduce a culture of cost reduction in the department.
? Have a regular exchange with the Production and Quality Leads in other countries of operations to identify areas of improvement.
Supervision Received:
Works highly autonomously, receiving general supervision from Global Head of Production & Quality (remote) and from MD. Expected to show a high level of initiative in role, ensuring work is completed by the department team. Accountable for results at department level.
Minimum Experience Requirements:
? At least 3 years of working experience
? Experience in water engineering, water production or any other related field
? Experience in quality assurance measures
? At least 1 year experience in supervising and leading small teams
Preferred Experience Requirements:
? At least 4 years of working experience
? Experience in water engineering, water production or any other related field
? Experience in quality assurance measures
? Experience in dealing with regulatory bodies (KEBS)
? At least 2 years of experience in supervising and leading small teams
Minimum Education Requirements:
Diploma degree in Engineering or Quality Management.
Preferred Education Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Engineering or Quality Management.
Required Skills:
? Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools
? Hands on experience in mechanical maintenance
? Fluent in English
? Effective in problem-solving
? A passion for operational excellence
? Driving skills are a plus
