QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
1) Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree. (A diploma in law with two years’ paralegal experience may suffice in lieu of the LLB Degree).
2) Experience in civil and criminal litigation.
3) Experience working with an NGO/Humanitarian field is an added advantage.
4) Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
5) Knowledge of the Kenyan legal system and of regional & international instruments on refugees and human rights.
6) Be from Garissa County and be willing to reside within Garissa township.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To offer legal and counselling services to the local community, asylum seekers and refugees, at RCK’s legal clinic, Kenya Prisons and Police Stations upon instructions by the Supervisor;
Assist in the day to day attendance of court, monitoring of cases in court and providing legal aid to clients.
Participate in RCK’s ongoing projects in other programmes, such as the capacity building workshops and community awareness forums when called upon.
Conduct case interviews and obtain biographical and demographical information on survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) among the members of the host community and refugees and asylum seekers, while making relevant consultations with the programme;
Identify needs and provide requisite support to survivors of GBV in Garissa within the community in consultation with programme staff;
Assist in filing and keying in client information in the data base and any other duties that might be delegated.
Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with your grade.
