The RoleSt Andrew's, Turi is seeking to appoint a highly motivated passionate individual to take up Peripatetic Music and instrumental teaching in subjects in Drum kit and Percussion in our Prep School and Senior School. Prior knowledge and experience is important and the person should be an experienced musician and trainer. Person SpecificationWorking at St Andrew's Turi is an exciting and dynamic experience. We look to recruit committed and resourceful staff, who are looking to not only develop their skills and leadership capacities, but also embrace new experiences and challenges.There are some requirements that are essential to working with us:The successful candidate will need to be able to support the School's aims and Christian ethos.To teach MUSIC lessons to students of a wide range from Prep to Senior School and to prepare them for graded MUSIC examinations.The candidate will need to be up to comprehensively dispense ALL areas of the ABRSM, LCM & UNISA Curricula to the standard desired by St Andrews.Able to write detailed well-structured reports.Proficient Lesson planning skills.Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skillsAbility to motivate pupils across all ages.Determination and perseveranceImagination, Innovation and CreativityTo be responsible for arranging a timetable that is suitable for the needs of the pupils and takes into consideration other school commitments. Assistance with timetabling is available from the Assistant Deputy Head Academics and the Directors of Co-Curricula.Identify clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed.Maintaining discipline in accordance with the School's procedures and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work.Knowledge and ExperienceQualificationsEssentialA Grade 8 qualification and above from ABRSM, LCM, UNISA or an equivalent examining body, in their main instrument, OR Appropriate Professional Experience.University Undergraduate Degree or Equivalent from a recognised UniversityRegistration with Teacher's Service Commission will be an added advantageDesirableExperience of performance skills needed for musical theatre, major School Musical Events, Orchestral Weekend, End of Year Concerts, Jazz and Gospel Band etcActively taking part in Co-Curricular Music, helping to run Ensembles, worship bands & Orchestra.Arranging recitals and concerts for pupils' families and friendsAssessing students abilities, providing feedback and writing reportsEnsuring up-to-date knowledge and awareness of examination requirements and preparing the students for such examinations.Teaching music theory, aural skills and practical techniques to students.SkillsEssentialExcellent communication and inter-personal skillsAbility to effectively communicate with parents, students of all ages, management, and other staffWell developed problem solving skillsSelf motivated and able to work alone without directionAdaptable and flexible with working patterns when requiredDesirableEvidence of being able to lead, manage and be responsible for initiatives/developmentsExperience of arranging events during school termSafeguardingEssentialCommitment to the safeguarding and protection of children and to the personal development of our students.Understanding of the issues surrounding the safeguarding of children and commitment to child welfare and safetyKnowledge of KCSIE and safeguarding requirements
