icipe seeks to recruit a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to complement work within the Human Health Theme, on piloting biorational, cattle-targeted interventions for sustainable control of arthropod vectors of malaria and other diseases of humans and livestock through multi-sectoral stakeholder engagement and community partnerships. The position is tenable at icipe, Kenya, either at icipe Thomas Odhiambo Campus on the shores of Lake Victoria, western Kenya or in one of the field sites once established. The position will be offered for an initial contract of 3 years, which may be renewable subject to continued project needs, funding for the position, and performance of the staff member. The successful candidate will be encouraged to also develop her/his own research portfolio that enhances the work of the Human Health Theme. The post will be full-time for an appropriately qualified candidate. A competitive and generous compensation package will be offered to the right candidate for the position based on experience. Furthermore, the incumbent will receive paid annual vacation, return airfare for themselves and their dependents to their nominated home base each year, and duty-free privileges. If the successful candidate is appointed from outside Kenya, he or she will be offered support to relocate to the country and settle in Mbita in western Kenya.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and evaluation of the cattle-targeted vector control tools in the counties of Kwale and Busia, Kenya;
§ Contribute to the general design of the study;
§ Design all the qualitative surveys;
§ Draft standard operating procedures for all activities implemented; § Co-ordinate and implement regular site visits to project sites; § Contribute to the training and supervision of project staff;
§ Provide supervision to students affiliated with the research project;
§ Prepare protocols for ethical clearance and biannual summary reports;
§ Contribute to the development of a broad-based programme within icipe’s Human Health Theme for the multi-sectoral and One Health approaches to controlling of vector-borne diseases;
§ Compile, publish and communicate research findings through internationally recognised forums and contribute to the dissemination of research findings to stakeholders;
§ Represent icipe’s Human Health Theme at international meetings and advocate methods for the environmental control of infectious diseases;
§ Play an active part in the capacity building of the Human Health Theme and participate in theme activities;
§ Undertake other related duties as required.
