Job Description

CcHUB seeks an experienced individual with strong working knowledge of the Kenyan public sector to join our GovLab team at iHUB to work on projects across Nigeria and Kenya. The practice supports the development and roll out of initiatives to improve public service delivery, increase citizen engagement & protect the online space through the smart application of technology.

The GovLab Lead is the hub’s primary interface for government agencies, civil society and social innovators looking to improve the way citizens’ needs.

Specific areas of interest in the Governance space include public service delivery, open data governance, digital rights, local government efficiency, digital security and technology policy.

Your responsibilities shall include the following :

- Identify critical governance priorities in Kenya for the unit & work with the team to initiate activities to stimulate solutions around priority areas

- Research key governance issues to identify critical leverage areas around which GovLab should engage stakeholders and citizens

- Provide expertise and counseling on regional and global policies in accordance with international best practices in order to develop innovative initiatives to regional problems

- Engage relevant national, regional and global institutions on relevant governance issues in East Africa focusing on increasing civic participation in elections, digital rights issues, creating and promoting safe spaces and improving government service delivery.

- Representing iHub in meetings and conferences as required

- Producing materials for communications advocacy including but not limited to policy briefs, fact-sheets, infographics, press releases, newsletters, etc.

- Assist in organizing and coordinating advocacy on governance issues or relevant policy development training

- Organize and support facilitation of events including stakeholder workshops, training sessions, and events.

- Use online and offline channels to disseminate information on projects to ensure maximum participation of critical stakeholders

- Manage teams to deliver innovation and technology projects to a high level of quality

- Develop documentation including but not limited to proposals, project plans, and reports

- Responsible for achieving project milestone deliverables/timelines, track and report on all project metrics

- Identify and engage new stakeholders including development agencies, research institutes, technical partners and end-users

- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Practice Lead

Qualifications

- A solid understanding of the Kenyan Public sector with relationships in academia, government agencies, civil society, startups and the development partner community

- Previous experience in working in the civic space to promote accountability and transparency ( Work in CivicTech/Govtech desirable)

- Track record of working with the Kenyan Government on improving service delivery

- Ability to build and manage relationships.

- Strong written and oral communication skills.

- Strong training and facilitation skills.

- Proficiency with social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, user forums, and customer support apps.
