We are looking for experienced self-driven and self-oriented professional to fill the position of an this position based in Dadaab- Kenya.
position profile: Under the supervision of the REACH Senior Field Officer, the REACH Field Assistant is responsible for the implementation of REACH field activities in Dadaab.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Managing enumeration teams
The REACH Field Assistant will lead enumeration teams and be responsible for providing direction, logistical and technical support to the enumerators. They will directly manage enumeration teams and ensure key informant networks are developed and maintained. The Field Assistant will assist in training enumerators on the tools and processes before data collection.
2. Data collection and quality
The REACH Field Assistant will conduct data collection in the field including household data, key informant interviews and individual interviews as required. In particular, the REACH Field Assistant will conduct in-depth key informant interviews with relevant key informants including community leaders, NGOs and CBOs representatives, Government representatives and other informants that will be identified through the project activities. The Field Assistant will be responsible for taking relevant notes in the field and feedback this to the Senior Field officer.
3. Focus group discussion facilitation and analysis
The REACH Field Assistant will facilitate or co-facilitate focus group discussions as may be required both in the refugee camps and host community, providing transcription, translation and qualitative analysis of the results as required.
4. FLATS support
The REACH Field Assistant will provide FLATS support to the Senior Field Officer by filling and tracking order forms and tracking existing and incoming REACH assets in field locations as needed. In coordination with the Senior Field Officer, they will manage the hiring process for enumerators and ensure their payments are processed.
5. Local Engagement
The REACH Field Assistant will seek to build positive relations with local governments, partners, and other stakeholders. They will follow guidelines from the Senior Field Officer and report any challenges to the Senior Field Officer.
6. Data quality checks and Cleaning
The REACH Field assistant will assist the senior field officer in ensuring daily data quality checks and following up the same with enumerators. They will assist the senior field officer in the initial cleaning of data, and will be the link between the GIS/DB team and the enumerators during the data cleaning process.
7.The REACH Field Assistant will participate in other, undefined tasks that are necessary to support the REACH mission in Kenya, including support for data collection activities in other locations.
Accountability to Communities and Beneficiaries
The staff member is responsible for ensuring that all relations with the communities we work are conducted in a respectful and consultative manner. Due attention must be paid to ensuring that communities are adequately consulted and informed about ACTED programme objectives, activities, beneficiary selection criteria, and methodologies. This is the responsibility of every ACTED staff member.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 2 year of experience in humanitarian or development organizations, preferably in a field-based position
Diploma in relevant discipline (social science, development studies, statistics) required
Strong skills with the Microsoft Office Suite including excel and word
Experience using ODK or KOBO Collect for quantitative data collection, or the ability to rapidly master the process
Experience conducting focus group discussions and In-depth Key informant interviews
Excellent communication skills
Prior experience working in Refugee setting an asset
Spoken fluency in English and the local language required
Strong written skills in English
