Wilkes University invites applicants for a Research Assistant in The Institute for Public Policy & Economic Development. The Institute is a collaboration between 13 higher education institutions and the business community in northeastern Pennsylvania. Its fiscal agent is Wilkes University. The Institute is a social science applied research center and economic consulting unit that produces both community based research and proprietary client projects. It completes applied research, best practices, case studies, strategy development, and consulting.
The successful candidate is responsible for Provides research support to the extent that it includes data collection, primarily from secondary sources, quantitative analysis, verification, editing, layout, graphics and design, and summarization of information. This may include delivery of surveys and interview questions and qualitative data analysis.
A Bachelor's Degree required in business, statistics, data analysis is required. Master's degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in primary and secondary data collection, analysis, and reporting. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position is contingent upon ongoing funding.
Research skills are needed. Analytical ability is required to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various programmatically problems and prioritize work. Work requires excellent command of the English language. Strong verbal and written skills are required. Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and publishing software as well as be able to learn new programs and effectively navigate the Internet. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information as well as deal with professionals from various levels of an organization. Strong customer service orientation and teamwork orientation is necessary. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy. Organizational skills and multi-tasking ability are vital. Work requires continual attention to detail and accuracy.
