Details of the offer

Company Overview Sanivation is a social enterprise that partners with local governments to develop and operate city wide sanitation infrastructure and deliver clean, safe, and efficient sanitation services to urbanizing communities in East Africa. Our mission is to improve the dignity, health, and environments of these communities. We have been operating in Kenya since 2014. Over the past six years, we have deployed three waste treatment plants, which have converted 2,500 tons of fecal sludge into a fuel product that replaces firewood. Selling this fuel to businesses has saved 107,000 trees and offset 7,300 tons of carbon. We have also formed partnerships with four county governments and water and sanitation utilities to support increasing safely managed sanitation in Kenya. In addition to local governments, we have worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNHCR, GIZ, KCCA, Unilever, and the World Bank. Project Overview and Timelines Over the past year, COVID-19 prevention and response have put Sanivation, an essential services operator, at the center of coordinating government working groups in Kenya to advise on WASH initiatives and strategies. We are working with Water and Sanitation Providers (WSPs) to make them more effective and resilient from the COVID-19 damage. This project will focus on two cities in Kenya - Naivasha and Kisumu – by evaluating their COVID-19 WASH response and developing their sanitation departments and long-term emergency response plans. Phase One of the project includes a situational analysis of the sanitation situation, mapping of sanitation and handwashing access points, evaluation of sanitation provision, and reports on the sanitation context. Phase Two will focus on an in-depth analysis of what the COVID-19 response was for WASH in each of the cities to develop improved sanitation and emergency response plans for the WSPs.
