Duties and Qualifications Resettlement AssistantOrganizational Setting and Work RelationshipsA Resettlement Assistant position is typically located at Multi-Country Office, Branch Office or Field Office. Under supervision, the incumbent¿s primary role is to assist the supervisor in effective resettlement delivery of a given UNHCR Office in accordance with the UNHCR Resettlement Handbook, UNHCR Manual and relevant policy papers and publications. The incumbent provides important clerical and administrative support to resettlement operations and may occasionally take part in assessing cases for resettlement and conducting interviews. S/he maintains frequent contacts with the supervisor, relevant colleagues within the same Office to exchange information and discuss issues on resettlement cases. Some limited contacts and communication at a working level are required with Embassy / Immigration Officials of resettlement countries, IOM as well as with other operating partners regarding resettlement issues.All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. They do so within their delegated authorities, in line with the regulatory framework of UNHCR which includes the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability frameworks. Dadaab refugee complex is located in the North-Eastern region of Kenya, about 416 Km from Nairobi. The camp was established in 1992 and is one of the oldest and still operational camps in Africa. The total population of the camp stands at about 226,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers, 96% of whom are of the Somali nationality. Following the recent Government of Kenya announcement on the intention to close refugee camps in Kenya, UNHCR has continues to engage authorities and support the development of a roadmap for suitable and sustainable solutions for refugees. Resettlement and complementary pathways are key durable solutions for refugees in Kenya, many of whom have been living in a protracted situation in refugee camps. Refugees in Dadaab are primarily identified for resettlement due to protection needs and in line with the resettlement criteria in the Resettlement Handbook. The United States receives the largest percentage of resettlement submissions. Canada, Germany, Australia, Sweden, among others, also receive cases from the Kenya operation. Despite the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the Office will continue to prioritize resettlement submissions out of Dadaab.The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Officer at the UNHCR Sub-Office Dadaab. They will conduct preliminary interviews and initial assessments and perform any other tasks as required. Duration of Appointment The duration of appointment is until 31 December 2021 with possibility of extension
