Brief introduction of the project:
The Sector Programme Soil Protection,
Desertification, Sustainable Land Management (SV BoDeN) based in Bonn/Germany
provides technical advice to the German Federal Ministry for Economic
Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It develops and promotes innovative
approaches and methods in the field of sustainable land management. The
advisory service for the BMZ covers all technical, political-strategic and
financial processes within the framework of the UN Convention to Combat
Desertification (UNCCD). The technical focus is on soil protection and climate
impacts, which become increasingly relevant. To this end, the sector project
implements measures in the new thematic field of "Climate protection
through soil protection" in two country packages (India and Kenya). The
aim is to demonstrate the climate impact of soil protection and sustainable
land use and to integrate them into policy-making. In cooperation with local
partners in Africa and Asia, soil protection measures are implemented, and
their mitigation and adaptation effects analysed and certified. It is to be
tested to what extent soil protection measures can meet the requirements of the
voluntary carbon market and thereby create incentives for sustainable land use.
Responsibilities
A. Responsibilities
This position will support activities in Kenya focusing on the establishment of a sustainable agricultural carbon certification scheme, in close cooperation with the GIZ Global Programme Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security (ProSoil) in Kenya and external service providers.
B. Tasks
1. Core tasks
Collaboration with national and county level political decision makers, extension services and national mitigation and adaptation Measurement, Reporting & Verification (MRV) system for the agriculture and land use sector
Support to external service providers in enabling stakeholders to adapt new monitoring systems with a focus on soil organic carbon (SOC) and enabling agricultural extension services
Support to external service provider in liaison and coordination between political partners, GIZ SV BoDeN and ProSoil, KfW projects, and external service providers
Support to SV Boden headquarter in developing and steering grants, local subsidies and service contracts
Responsibility for sound organization of capacity development workshops and trainings in cooperation with external service providers
Advisor to stakeholders on relevant technical aspects on sustainable land management, SOC, including relevant cross-cutting issues in gender equality and do-no-harm
Support to SV BoDeN in processing technical project results and impacts for documentation and reporting (BMZ, UNFCCC, UNCCD, technical networks)
Close coordination with the ProSoil country package Kenya to ensure maximum synergies
C. Required qualifications, experiences and competences
Qualifications
Professional experience
Master’s degree in the field of agriculture, climate financing, rural development, Gender or related fields
Minimum 5 years' experience in the field of sustainable land management, agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU), climate mitigation/adaptation in land use
Expertise on climate certification schemes, climate mitigation and adaptation in the agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU) sector
Strong conceptual and analytical skills as well as a high level of advisory and coordination competence
Professional experience in development and organization of capacity development measures (esp. organizational development, trainings)
Solid expertise in gender aspects in agricultural sector
Collaboration experience with agricultural extension services
Experience with GIZ internal processes and instruments is an asset
Ability to work in an international team setting and flexibility
English language skills: C1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
Other knowledge, additional competences
Willingness to undertake short-term business trips to the intervention fields in Kenya, to Germany and eventually international conferences worldwide is a prerequisite for the position.
