Details of the offer

PATH is an international organization that drives transformative innovation to save lives and improve health, especially among women and children. We accelerate innovation across five platforms-vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, devices, and system and service innovations-that harness our entrepreneurial insight, scientific and public health expertise, and passion for health equity. By mobilizing partners around the world, we take innovation to scale, working alongside countries primarily in Africa and Asia to tackle their greatest health needs. Together, we deliver measurable results that disrupt the cycle of poor health.
PATH’s Center of Digital and Data Excellence (CoDE) helps countries and communities reach the unreached by mobilizing multisector partnerships, leveraging broad public health experience, and offering a full range of digital and data capabilities – from strengthening digital architectures to planning for the next generation of connected devices.
Digital Square, a global initiative within CoDE, is a partnership of the world’s leading digital health experts from 40+ organizations working together with countries to strengthen digital health systems. In pursuit of our Mission: connect health leaders with the resources necessary for digital transformation, Digital Square offers a new way to invest in digital health—providing a space where countries and members of the global community can gather to think big and do good, together. By convening government officials, technological innovators, donor and implementation partners, and others across borders and boundaries in the Digital Square, we can grow possibility into reality by focusing on our common goal: connecting the world for better health.
Digital Square is maturing the field by improving coordination and alignment of both the donors that fund digital health projects and the community that implements them. We are improving the open source digital health software ecosystem and the capacity of governments to choose, maintain, and use these global goods. This increased coordination and matured software ecosystem will allow low- and middle-income countries to effectively manage their own regional and country digital health systems, thereby reducing reliance on development technical assistance over the longer term and improving health impact. For more information about Digital Square, its objectives and our progress to date please visit our website.
Digital Square is supporting the Digital Regional East African Community Health (REACH) Initiative, a coordinated, regionally-focused initiative that brings together stakeholders from the East African Community (EAC), EAC Partner States, development partners, technology providers, and the private sector to support the implementation of interoperable information and communications technology (ICT) across all dimensions of the health sector in East Africa while leveraging existing country digital health investments. The Initiative’s goals will be achieved through the creation of a robust enabling environment and the implementation of strategic regional health programs supported and facilitated by digital health technologies. One such health program has been prioritized for immediate implementation: the East African Health Cloud (EAHC), an interoperable health information system that will enable real-time capture, storage, analysis, and retrieval of health data across the region.
The East African Health Cloud (EAHC) will be the principle infrastructure for Digital REACH Initiative’s workstreams and health programs. Digital Square has been engaged to support the hosting for the EAHC and the selection of digital health common goods. These activities include: 1) an assessment of available hosting options with EAC and of available common goods in partner states: 2) a convening to socialize hosting and common goods recommendations with member states; and 3) the development and socialize EAHC Implementation Roadmap. The goal of these activities is to identify the most sustainable, feasible hosting option to facilitate the design and establishment of regional common digital public goods.
