Introduction
CBiT is looking for a UI/UX Designer with the capability to translate market intelligence into a highly effective and delightful digital platform. Reporting to the Deputy Project Manager, the candidate will be responsible for research, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI)of the LIN Platform Project as well as other digital assets.
Background and Context:
The Center for Business Innovation and Training (CBiT) in collaboration with the East Africa leather consortium has partnered with GIZ to develop a digital platform for the East Africa leather industry. The project is designed to facilitate use of digital technology in shaping there region’s development agenda, and to foster trade.
Position Information
The desired candidate will collaborate with other members of the LIN Platform
development team to evaluate project requirements, gather market intelligence, define the
design problem, ideate and design the LIN Platform, using modern design methods and
technology. You will also work on the product visual look. Applying design elements, such as
color, shape, form as well as fonts, and icons, as tools to creating the solution. He/She will
ensure that all elements of the online user experience are optimized for ultimate
functionality, usability, and exceptional visual appeal.
Responsibilities
Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with other members of the
LIN Platform development team.
Document study findings; Cleary underpinning customers’ pain points, user’s
journey, user personal profile and competitors’ offerings.
Generate design ideas; exploiting the concept of co-creation; involving the project
team and stakeholders in the selection of the ideal product idea.
Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps.
Design graphic user interface elements that offer optimal functionality and delight.
Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how the site functions and
looks like.
Create innovative graphic designs for effective visual communication.
Present clickable prototypes to internal teams and key stakeholders for feedback,
evaluation and validation.
Identify and troubleshoot any UX problems during user testing.
Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback
Develop a style-guide/standards on fonts, colors and images and other key features of the site for consistency and preservation of design.
Requirements
BSc in Design, Computer Science or any other relevant field
UX research skills
Knowledge and ability to wireframe and to develop UI prototypes;
Coding skills, UX writing, analytics and visual communication
Aptitude in interaction design and user-empathy
Up-to-date with knowledge in design software such as Adobe Illustrator and
Photoshop
Team spirit; to effectively work with others
Strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders
Good time-management skills
Portfolio of design projects and with contacts of referees
Preferred
5-years’ proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer
Familiarity with technical issues and ability to work constructively with engineering
teams.
Knowledge of the East Africa region
