One of the most pressing challenges facing working families in Kenya is access to affordable and reliable childcare. Kidogo is social enterprise that equips women in Kenya with the business and child care skills necessary to make a difference in their community. These women, known as ‘Mamapreneurs’, will use the Kidogo Mobile App to enroll new families, take attendance, record finances, and answer daily questions regarding standards.

As a User Centered developer
Kidogo needs the support of an experienced User centered developer with experience in JavaScript to add features, squash bugs, and help polish the current app into a delightful experience for the Mamapreneurs. You also deliver a user/human centered design approach to develop a platform (incl. analogue and digital components - such as paper, apps and sales force dashboards integration) that integrates analogue and digital data collection, and provides usable and actionable data insights for childcare service/Daycare providers. This is a great opportunity to use your UX/UI and software development skills to support childcare providers to access, understand and interpret data to make life changing decisions on their childcare operations; making a real impact on children and families.

Key tasks include:
Create a strategy for delivering a participatory, human-centered design process for Kidogo with childcare providers
Co-deliver workshops/ capacity building with our programmes team for childcare providers
Develop relevant tools (platform / app /dashboard - see above) necessary to collect and/or process analogue data and deliver insights to caregivers
Carry out iterative development process with caregivers feedback and needs
Integrate on-demand data from caregivers into Kidogo sales force dashboard
Other activities as requested

We are looking for someone who is:
Eager and ready to play a key role in co-designing and delivering an impactful data system for caregivers
Passionate about our model and approach to supporting and empowering women caregivers and children
Capable of managing app development and data management, but willing to try new things and take the unconventional (often non digital) approach to solving problems
Creative and innovative, and excited about working with a small, passionate, diverse & creative team

Essential requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant programming tools used for app / software development as appropriate
Experience of working with software such as Tableau, Google Drive, Word press, Wix
Experience in creating and delivering UX/UI and human / user centered design processes
Flexible approach to problem-solving that may include using low / non tech solutions and willingness to work with limited resources
Comfortable working teams environment across multiple cultures and Languages
Willingness to make most of opportunity to travel often to rural and Urban informal areas of East Africa

Mandatory qualifications:

Nice to have:
Experience in working in rural and urban informal setting or low IT literacy populations
Experience working for social enterprise / NGO / charitable organization
Knowledge / understanding of the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
