Position Summary
WWF-Kenya hosts the East Africa Wildlife Crime Hub, which supports WWF and TRAFFIC offices in the delivery of wildlife crime programs. The Wildlife Crime Hub is designed to strengthen delivery of Wildlife Crime Projects in the region by WWF and TRAFFFIC working at Landscape, national and regional levels.
Major function
The Wildlife Crime Program Assistant contributes to the delivery of the Regional Wildlife Crime Programme in East Africa. The Project Assistant will be responsible for the grant management as part of the East Africa Wildlife Crime Hub.
The Project Assistant will work closely with WWF Offices in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya and with the Eastern Africa TRAFFIC office together with the IUCN and other partners.
Roles and responsibilities
Support the delivery of Regional Wildlife Crime programs:
· Ensure the efficient implementation of Regional Wildlife Crime projects in Eastern Africa.
· Be responsible for the day to day management of the grants following WWF Open standards framework or donor requirements.
· Monitor grants and organise and conduct project monitoring visits as well as prepare trip reports in coordination with the Regional Wildlife Crime Technical Advisor.
· Contribute to drafting of progress reports for the donors and WWF network.
· Offer Administrative support to the EA wildlife Crime Hub and Wildlife Programme activities.
· Support the planning of regional meetings and related activities.
· Support East Africa Wildlife Crime Hub and Wildlife Program activities whenever required.
· Deputize for the wildlife crime technical advisor in CONNECT project team meeting.
· Support regional wildlife crime advocacy.
Key skills or competencies
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Computer literacy in MS Office packages.
Team-oriented attitude and ability to work independently
Good command of English and Swahili, both in written and oral
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team as well as independently.
Good understanding of current conservation and environmental issues
Willing to travel as and when required
Required Qualifications:
1. Possess a Bachelor’s degree in conservation or natural resource management.
2. Solid understanding of the Wildlife Crime in East Africa and threats and drivers associated with it.
3. Good project management skills.
Experience:
Minimum working experience of three (3) years in a wildlife conservation field, preferably in East Africa.
Working Relationships
Internal:
This post will report to the EA wildlife crime Advisor and Liaise closely with WWF Uganda, WWF Tanzania and TRAFFIC in East Africa, and the wildlife crime hubs across Africa.
External:
The post will work closely with IGCP and key partners in East Africa. Interacts with government officials, intergovernmental organizations and treaties (e.g. IUCN, CITES, GVTC, EAC), and other NGOs.
