Job Summary

We are seeking a Youth Agribusiness Coordinator who will grow a network of youth leaders mobilised to support the delivery of Producers Direct’s farmer-led service model across East Africa, including supporting youth leaders to participate in and lead leadership training, agri-tech and market access activities in agriculture.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Tasks include:
Mobilise and grow Producers Direct’s network of youth leaders across East Africa, including:
-- Supporting Producers Direct’s existing network of youth leaders to recruit, train and motivate wider engagement of youth groups and leaders to enhance support for youth-led innovation and engagement in profitable agri-enterprises
-- Strengthening partnerships with strategic organizational partners to grow, showcase and profile the role of youth in agriculture across East Africa, including through evidencing profitable, scaleable youth-led enterprises.

Supporting youth leaders to profitably engage in delivering of Producers Direct’s farmer-led service model across East Africa - including farmer-led training; financial services; data and agri-tech services; and facilitating market access opportunities for smallholders.

Develop and scale Producers Direct’s youth-led model to support smallholder farmers with market access opportunities, including supporting Producers Direct’s network of youth leaders to:
-- Identify marketing and sales opportunities for the range of products being grown by smallholders across East Africa - including fresh fruits and vegetables - in order to ensure youth leaders collectively meet Producers Direct’s product sales targets.
-- Collect and aggregate products from farmers.
-- Negotiate contracts between farmers and buyers.
-- Manage logistics associated with product aggregation and distribution.

Co-develop incentive models to enhance youth engagement in agriculture and in the delivery of Producers Direct’s model. For example:
-- Financial incentives / youth agent models to ensure youth are realising sustainable incomes from their roles in Producers Direct’s model - including in delivering Youth-led Data and Agri-tech services, and Supply Chain logistics.
-- Peer-to-peer lending and savings models for youth, through Producers Direct’s Rotating Credit Fund.

Mobilise and work with strategic partners to develop youth-led strategies and campaigns to re-frame youth’s perceptions of agriculture, and mobilise youth to engage in agricultural activities.
-- Youth-led innovation - peer-to-peer knowledge sharing on innovative, profitable agri-enterprises etc.
-- Youth leadership development
--- Expansion of Producers Direct’s youth leadership training curriculum
--- Mobilising strategic partnerships with other partners working to support youth leadership development across East Africa.

Who are we looking for:

Our ideal candidate would demonstrate the following qualities and qualifications:
An entrepreneurial approach and creative mindset, with a willingness to bring and try new ideas - motivated to work for a dynamic, ambitious farmer-led organization.

Strong understanding of the challenges experienced by youth across East Africa, especially in relation to agri-enterprise.

Proven experience in delivering the following services to support youth leaders:
Youth leadership training.

Youth agri-business development - including supporting youth to develop & manage profitable agri-enterprises.

Developing and scalable youth incentivisation models.

Mobilisation of youth to promote youth engagement within the agricultural and agri-tech sectors.

Established connections with youth leader networks across East Africa and/or relationships with organisations supporting youth-led agricultural development initiatives.

A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Business, Sales and Marketing or related fields.

5-10 years' experience in developing and managing youth and farmer-led agricultural training and agri-business development initiatives.

Experience in developing and managing programmes.

Experience in mobilising and managing networks, in-person and virtually.

Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The ability to work well under pressure.

What we can offer:
Initial 12-month fixed term contract, pending the completion of a successful 3-month probationary review period, with scope for longer-term contract extension.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
