The position holder will report to the Paediatrics Unit Manager, Nursing Division.Responsibilities: Lead the team in development, implementation and monitoring of unit based clinical policies and proceduresTake lead in identification, definition and monitoring of unit based clinical indicatorsAssist the nurse manager and lead physician to initiate innovative and evidence-based strategies to improve patient careParticipate in evaluation of care and outcomes through Mortality and Morbidity discussions, clinical incidence trends and clinical indicators Together with the Nurse Manager, conduct regular evaluation of nurses and design individual development plans based on identified learning/training needs Review patient allocation to determine correct patient assignment according to the nurse's competence Ensure adequate orientation and settling of new nurses to assigned unitDevelop and maintains effective networks both internal and external to improve nursing practiceEnsure compliance to documentation policy through spot-checks on nursing forms such Initial assessment, Vital signs chart, Patient Education Record, and fluid chart, treatment sheet and progress notes chartParticipate in evaluation of nursing documents to ensure their appropriateness in capturing patient informationTake lead in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) and ensures participation by nursesRequirements: Registered nurse (KRN/M; KRCHN) with a BSc-Nursing degreeCurrent licensure with the Kenya Nursing CouncilCertification in ACLSMinimum of five years clinical nursing experience in A&E unit in an acute care hospitalPossess teaching abilities, leadership qualities, professional judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and a sense of professional developmentDemonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in nursing
