Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) – a unique and exciting programme that promotes and gives young people from across Kenya an opportunity to demonstrate innovation and showcase their scientific talent through a National Science and Technology competition, is seeking a dynamic and driven Executive Director to grow their programme. The successful candidate will lead and manage all aspects of the organization’s programming and resource-mobilization efforts, manage the Secretariat, and engage with relevant government and non-government stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in mobilizing and sustaining resources, a talent for networking and building effective and strategic relationships as well as a proven commitment to realizing the potential of Kenyan youth.
Qualifications:
An advanced degree in Management, Business Administration, Education or equivalent.
Experience in the education sector and/or engaging with educational institutions will be a distinct advantage.
Ability to manage complex, high-level stakeholder relationships, programmes and initiatives.
Minimum of 10+ years’ demonstrated experience in developing and sustaining organizations in the private or NGO sector.
A proven capacity to grow, lead, implement and adapt an organizational and/or business strategy.
Experience reporting to a Board of Directors, and ideally acting as a member of a Board.
Certification/qualification in public relations, programme management, fundraising or sales & marketing will be an added advantage.
Strong Leadership, Strategic and Analytical skills.
Excellent Communication skills and Public Speaking experience.
Responsibilities
Design and execute a comprehensive revenue generation strategy.
Work with key stakeholders to develop and implement short and long-term strategies.
Oversee the YSK financial management system.
Creating and nurturing partnerships and programmes with higher education, science-based research institutions and the private sector.
Manage relationships with multiple external stakeholders and report to the Board on progress and opportunities.
Develop and maintain a directory of resources, agencies and organizations that are available to support the YSK initiative.
Design and implement effective communication strategies to enhance the YSK brand.
Support effective functioning of all of the YSK Board Sub-Committees.
