Job
Purpose
The Head of Finance provides leadership to the finance department and advises senior management on all financial matters. Responsible for safe-guarding and optimizing utilization of TBC’s financial resources through the implementation of appropriate financial management systems, policies & practices that ensure accurate and timely production of financial information and through efficient planning, monitoring and control. Lead the treasury management function ensuring optimal funding at minimal cos/maximum returns.
Key Duties/ Responsibilities
1. Contribute to the development of the Company’s strategic plan through the provision of viable strategic financial input and financial evaluation of strategic growth options
2. Prepare financial strategies ensuring alignment with the overall organization goals and sharing these with the MD and the members of executive management team. Identifies avenues for business and operation improvement and cost reduction.
3. Develop finance management policies, systems and processes that drive operational effectiveness of the control environment and enable the organization to achieve its financial objectives.
4. Ensure optimal financial systems and processes development, that are embedded with optimal controls.
5. Lead the annual budgeting process. Monitors financial performance by measuring and analysing results, initiating corrective actions and consequently minimizing the impact of variances.
6. Oversee the treasury function, ensuring the availability of affordable funds to run operations and the maximization of returns on invested funds; Prepares cashflow forecasts that are in line with operational budgets and manage working capital in a manner that enables the company meet cash commitments.
7. Perform financial risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities and investments
8. Continually monitor TBC performance against goals and budgets, reporting to both management and the Directors, facilitating timely remedial action.
9. Lead the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and management reporting within set timelines, ensuring that the Directors are adequately informed of financial performance and challenges, thus facilitating optimal decision making.
10. Support the audit processes (internal and external) and ensures that financial related audit recommendations are implemented as per the agreed plan.
11. Oversee the IT function of the company, ensuring proper performance of IT systems to determine productivity levels and alignment with the company’s overall strategy
12. Manage the performance of the team and support them through training, mentorship, and coaching.
Qualifications and Experience
· Masters’ Degree in finance, accounting, or related subjects.
· Professional accounting qualification – CPA(K)/ACCA/CMA
· Member of a relevant professional body
· Robust knowledge of ERP systems with at least 3 years of experience with SAP.
· At least ten (15) years’ experience in financial management, five (5) of which must be in a finance leadership role preferably within the retail space.
