Details of the offer

The Insurance Manager will deliver corporate insurance programs across East Africa. Responsibilities include compilation of underwriting information; assistance in coverage placement, management of relationships with third party service providers including brokers, insurers and other TPAs; loss forecasting; policy management; premium allocations and preparation of various loss analyses.
The Insurance Manager uses relevant knowledge of the insurance industry, insurance concepts and associated products, insurance pricing and contracts, underwriting practices, and/or claims/reporting processes and procedures to protect assets, reduce corporate risk and inform insurance purchase decisions.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or equivalent
•Chartered Insurance Institute [CII] qualification preferred
•Experience of interacting with national/international financial institutions and insurance counterparts and service providers
• Expert knowledge of Insurance management principles, regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

• Act as the main point of contact for Insurance for the East Africa region
•Work with Brokers and the business to gather and review renewal information for East Africa insurance placement
• Make recommendations for rating, wording and insurers within the East Africa region to Director Risk & Insurance Director
•Identify new insurable risks within the Business and make recommendations for effective management of the risks
• Work with the Director Risk & Insurance to report to the organisation on cover arrangements, premiums and recoveries
•Review and negotiate contractual insurance obligations placed on the organisation
• Manage (with the Legal Department) the liability claims notification process to insurers so that the insurers have sufficient information to investigate claims
• Monitor and report to the Director Risk & Insurance on the effectiveness of the insurer’s claims handling service
• Work with each East Africa HR team to place and manage appropriate medical insurance policies for each region, or as needed
• Be responsible for the implementation and management of the claims process and ensure this is being followed by each of the East Africa locations
• Be accountable for high profile or high values claims for the East Africa region
• Monitor and review claims within each of the East Africa locations to help identify trends
• Identify areas for improved risk management practices within the organisation
• Work with the Risk Managers in the East Africa locations to implement and risk mitigation measures and strategy
• Wherever possible, ensure the terms and conditions of contracts are clear and robust in relation to all matters insurance, provide bid, and contract negotiation support as needed.
• Keep procedures up-to-date and ensure appropriate people are aware and able to follow the procedures as appropriate
• Conduct regular reviews of existing processes and recommend changes to the Director Risk & Insurance
• Resolve insurance queries from departments and third parties
• Deputise for the Group Insurance Director as and when required
• Ensure all policies are filed on the company shared filing system and any necessary certificates of cover are provided by the broker
