St Andrew’s School Turi, is looking for highly motivated passionate individuals to take up peripatetic music vocal and instrumental teaching in subjects in any of the following families; strings, winds, brass, orchestral percussion and piano in our Prep School and Senior School. The successful applicant will undertake their role and responsibilities in accordance with St Andrew’s School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Guidelines and will be required to undergo all checks relevant to the post.
Skills RequiredThe applicant must be/have;

• Proficient Sight-Reading Skills • Able to start up and ran ensembles effectively

• Able to comprehensively dispense ALL areas of the ABRSM, LCM & UNISA Curricula.

• Able to write detailed well-structured reports

• Proficient Lesson Planning Skills

• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills

• Ability to motivate others

• Determination and perseverance

• Imagination, Innovation and Creativity

Qualifications Required

The applicant must have

• A Grade 8 qualification and above from ABRSM, LCM, UNISA or an equivalent examining body, in their main instrument.

• University Undergraduate Degree or Equivalent from a recognised University.

• Registration with Teacher’s Service Commission will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Planning and preparing lessons in relation to individual pupils' needs and examination syllabuses• Acquiring appropriate teaching materials and resources

• Teaching music theory, aural skills and practical techniques to pupils

• Entering and preparing pupils for examinations

• Motivating pupils and encouraging progress

• Creating and maintaining a network of contacts to ensure work continuity

• Ensuring up-to-date knowledge and awareness of examination requirements

• Assessing pupils’ abilities, providing feedback and writing reports

• Arranging recitals and concerts for pupils' families and friends

• Actively taking part in Co-curricular Music; Helping to run Ensembles & Orchestra.

• Playing a significant role in the Major School Musical Events; Orchestral Weekend, End of Year Concerts etc.

• Keeping clear and concise financial and administrative records

Continuing Professional Development
• In conjunction with the DoM, the applicant should take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with developments related to school efficiency, which may lead to improvements in the day-to-day running of the school.

• Undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the School Improvement Plan taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available.

• Maintain a professional portfolio of evidence to support the Performance Management process - evaluating and improving own practice.
