St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church was established in Kangemi (Nairobi) in 1985 by the Jesuits of the East African Province.

The Saint Joseph the Worker Development Programmes was established the same year with the aim of managing and coordinating the various development programmes that Jesuits implement in Kangemi. Guided by our Christian values, our programmes seek to promote a society free from all forms of discrimination, in which everyone have the opportunity to develop their full potential. Over the years, the Development Programmes has striven to accompany the empowerment processes of the most vulnerable and impoverished persons and communities, survivors of Gender Based Violence, People Living with HIV/AIDs within Kangemi location.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position reports to the Programme Manager and works with the respective team leads and is responsible for ensuring the effective placement of students and beneficiaries in Uzima Programme, St. Joseph Technical Secondary School and Upendo Education Programme (OVC).

He/she will also focus on Identification of young women and girls for G.B.V services in collaboration with project staff and Community Health Volunteers

**Responsibilities:

As Placement Officer**
• Advise students on available internship opportunities and helps them acquire internship opportunities appropriate to their goals.
• Organizing and maintaining the internship/career placement database.
• Co-coordinating special events, career forums, induction/orientation, and other students’ non-academic programmes.
• Developing internship information handouts
• Coordination, preparation and publishing of student affairs calendar.
• Facilitation of students by identifying and refereeing eligible students for job placement.
• Promote a positive and internship/placement experience for students through follow up activities.
• Handle student Affairs department through participation and engagement with professional organizations.
• Ensure that students seeking internships opportunities have medical insurance cover from relevant insurance company.
• Advice and guide students on how to abide by the code of conduct and the norms of the organization during internship.
• Coordinate and liaise with different Institution to have laid down policies and procedures in regards to internship fees.
• Any other duties as may be assigned by management.

As Social Worker
• Assist Social Worker to Work with clients, family and health care providers to develop individualized plan of the care on HIV/AIDS and Women Empowerment intervention strategies
• In collaboration with the social worker, provide information to assist safe transition care for beneficiaries.
• Provide support to support groups – providing technical guidance and leadership when called upon by the social worker/counsellor.
• Ensure that client’s needs and choices are represented and supported in the community and by the programme.
• Identify women empowerment interventions, mitigate against risk factors that increase vulnerability or exposure to HIV and GBV.
• Work closely with Community Health Volunteers offering support in the development, updating and overseeing the implementation of their Work Plans/Action Plans.
• With the help of the social worker, train beneficiaries on income generation ideas, business management skills, marketing strategies, marketing scanning, business innovations, business networking, savings schemes and making required recommendations.
• Participate in trainings and forums on women empowerment
• In collaboration with the (CHEWs) Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) actively monitor and supervise Community Health Workers performance and compliance required standards.
• Maintain documentation, proper filing systems, confidentiality of GBV/HIV AIDS cases and ensure proper filing for all Uzima beneficiaries.
• Networking with other stakeholders
• To refer and link beneficiaries for further management.
• To participate in interdisciplinary team meetings
• To provide information to assist safe transition care for beneficiaries
• Any other duty as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Qualifications & Experience:
• Diploma in Social Sciences/Arts
• At least one year experience as Social Worker
• Strong organizational, and interpersonal skills,
• Great business ideas in Income generating activities and marketing strategies.
• Fluent in oral and written English and excellent writing skills;
• Ability to cope with tight deadlines;
• Well versed and have hand experience in various computer application software.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Well-disciplined and respectful irrespective of age, gender, race and societal status to fellow employees.
