Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, this role is responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting, meeting statutory and regulatory requirements and reconciliation of the general ledger accounts.ResponsibilitiesControl Environment & FrameworkOversee the general ledger activities and maintain chart of accounts, ensuring accurate and consistent recording of financial transactionsPreparing weekly and monthly cash flow statement reports and controlling expenditure through review of all opex and capex needs as well as overseeing account payable activitiesCarrying out tax reporting, preparing and submitting tax returns on a timely basisReview reasonability of UPRs and IBNRs computations and postings by ensuring compliance with actuarial guidelines and accounting standardsAccurate accounting and implementation of reinsurance treaties through liaising with the underwriting and claims teams to ensure appropriate reinsurance bookings within the ledger and follow up on recoveries and settlement of ceded premiumPerforming reconciliations between finance systems and the core business systemsPerform monthly and quarterly general ledger analysis and reconciliations on the various asset, liability, revenue and expense accountsMaintenance of a complete, accurate and comprehensive Property and Equipment register and ensure reconciled to the general ledgerParticipate in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring adherence to tight deadlines and accuracy in financial reportingCo-ordinate the timely completion of the external audit of the financial records of the companyAny other duty assigned by managementAudit & ComplianceEnsure adherence to audit requirements and implementation of audit recommendationsEnsure adherence to regulatory and compliance requirementsWhat we're looking for:QualificationsExperienceSkills/CompetenciesUndergraduate degree in finance, accounting or related fieldMasters degree in a business related discipline is an added advantageProfessional qualification : CPA (K) or ACCAMember of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)Relevant insurance industry experiencePractical exposure to internal and external audits, budgeting, reporting and preparation of annual statutory financial statementsPrevious working experience in a Big 4 audit firm is an added advantageStrong understanding of technical accounting relating to the new IFRS 17Deep understanding of various types of reinsurance treaties and impact on the company's performance and solvencyStrong communication skills (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills to effectively work with different departmentsStrong analytical, planning and organization skillsProven ability to perform well under pressure and regularly meet strict deadlines a fast-paced environmentExcellent spreadsheet skills (Excel)Time Management: Ability to handle multiple priorities, organize work and meet deadlinesAttention to detail: Maintain accuracy of workCommunication: Effective communication skills at all levels of businessStrong team player
