What is the opportunity?
Under the guidance of the Lead Engineer, the Senior Level Engineer directly supports Water Mission’s vision of providing safe water and an opportunity to share God’s love with all by performing technical tasks following the Kenya Country Program’s established standards and procedures. This is a full-time position that requires residency in Kitale, Kenya. The position requires frequent travel to remote locations within Kenya and occasionally outside Kenya to carry out assessments, water project construction, installation, troubleshooting, system repairs, or training. A successful Lead Engineer will:
Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, donors, volunteers, and the general public
Provide technical direction and assistance for technicians, contractors, and volunteers in the field
Provide onsite project management in support of approved projects
Ensure that all water systems (motorized systems and hand pumps) under Water Mission's mandate for Operations and Maintenance are functioning to serve the intended purpose
Ensure that all the project generators are serviced at the right time to avoid breakdown
Maintain regular contact with supervisors and stakeholders through timely reporting
Conduct field inspections and site assessments as needed under the direction of the Lead Engineer and Project Manager
Coordinate WASH emergency responses as and when the need arises
Maintain regular contact with supervisors and stakeholders through timely reporting
Perform engineering tasks including water hydraulic design calculations, and development of plans, specifications, and structural drawings
Conduct engineering fieldwork and design according to the established engineering principles and standards to a high degree of excellence and dependable accuracy
Layout and design of water systems including source, pumping, treatment, storage and distribution
Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required by the supervisor and on time
Perform assessments in communities, including water quality and quantity testing, survey measurements, and other aspects as may be required
Write proposals and apply for grants
Other duties as assigned
What is required?
Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical required 5+ years experience in project engineering and/or water/wastewater engineering. Experience related to solar pumping equipment and supervising construction of water related civil structures to high standards Registration with Engineering Board of Kenya Practical experience in project implementation Experience with community engagement and mobilization skills Knowledge in the design of solar piped water systems preferred Excellent office computer program skills, i.e., AutoCAD, EPANET, and MS Office T2/T3 license with EPRA preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English & Swahili) Excellent analytical, project planning, monitoring, and management skills Ability to organize personal workload and achieve on time results A strong work ethic Ability and willingness to travelPigiaMe Disclaimer:
