Surgical Technician, Locum

The position holder will report to the Nurse Manager-Operating Room.Responsibilities: Gather, check and open supplies & equipment needed for the surgical procedureSet up the sterile back table and mayo stand with instruments supplies and medications / solutions needed for the procedure Perform initial surgical count with the circulating nurseAssist the scrubbed team members with gowning and glovingAssist with draping the patient to establish a sterile fieldSecure sterile cords, tubing's and other accessories Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure Prepare and anticipate additional instrumentation and supplies for usage during the procedureAnticipate the needs of the surgeon and pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedureMeasure and pass medications, haemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the procedureHold retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeonCoordinate the camera or endoscopic instruments as directed by the surgeonPerform additional surgical counts (cavity closure, skin closure) or as necessaryPrepares sterile dressing(s) and or immobilization device(s)Prepare and pass off specimen(s) as appropriate Participate in debriefing Process quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient careHand over after verification the instruments to the CSSD technician for sterilizationRequirements: Surgical technician course from a recognized institution Proficiency in computer Literacy Experience in theatre -Preferred
